The venue will be developed as Shanghai’s business district looks to recover in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The ESP ESports Experience Center will cover 36,000m2 in Putuo’s Changfeng business district.
The new esports arena will be the main host for the top-level Honor of Kings competition, the most popular multiplayer mobile game in China.
The East China regional competition of the King Pro League is also expected be held in the venue, which will host over 350 games a year. The esports arena is expected to be completed in 2025.
Putuo has made esports one of its key industries, according to the district’s culture and tourism bureau. The aim is for the area to become a global esports capital.
Several key esports venues have been developed in downtown Putuo, including the IMBA esports center at Global Harbor Mall, the biggest downtown shopping mall and an esports Internet bar at Huxi Worker’s Cultural Palace.
