Esports showpiece heads to Shanghai

The League of Legends esports World Championship will be held at the Shanghai Stadium in China next year.

Championship organiser Riot Games unveiled details of the 2020 venue as this year’s event at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France came to a conclusion.

The 10th World Championship Finals will take place in 2020 at the 55,000-seat home of Chinese Super League football club Shanghai SIPG.

Shanghai hosted the 2017 World Championship semi-finals, with the Chinese city also the headquarters of the LPL, China’s leading League of Legends league.

That year’s Finals were held at Beijing National Stadium, while Incheon’s Munhak Stadium and Madison Square Garden in New York hosted other recent finals.
