Work begins on esports Fusion Arena

Construction work has started on the $50 million Fusion Arena – a purpose-built esports venue in Philadelphia.

A ground-breaking ceremony has been held at the arena construction site of the venue, which will be home to esports Overwatch League team, the Philadelphia Fusion.

The arena is being built at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, which comprises Lincoln Financial Field (NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles), Citizens Bank Park (MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies), Xfinity Live!, and the Wells Fargo Center (NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers, NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers).

Comcast Spectacor and its real estate partner The Cordish Companies are developing the new venue.

Cordish Companies principal Blake Cordish said:

" Today’s celebration marks an important milestone for our partnership as the next phase of development commences adjacent to Xfinity Live! in the heart of the Philadelphia Sports Complex.

" Fusion Arena will debut as a state-of-the-art, world-class venue in an unparalleled location amid Philadelphia’s beloved professional sports teams."

The first-of-its-kind venue will seat up to 3,500 guests and stand as the largest new-construction, purpose-built esports arena in the Western Hemisphere.

Designed by Populous, Fusion Arena will boast 60,000ft2 of new construction, featuring a stunning and futuristic design throughout.

A captivating 6,000ft2 public entry will greet guests as they enter the space and includes 2,000ft2 of interactive media surface hovering 30ft above them.

The technologically-advanced arena will offer unique seating experiences including two balcony bars, club seats with USB ports, flexible loge boxes and exclusive suites. Additionally, nearly 10,000ft2 will be dedicated to a training facility, broadcast studio and team offices.

The training facility in particular separates the Fusion from the pack, offering unrivaled experiences and development opportunities for players.
